The brain child of two Betty Maclean Travel Consultants, Jen Mitchell and Cassie McMillion, The Exploration Society was created to bring travel enthusiasts together. “We know that there are travelers in our area that are looking for exciting destinations and new adventures but want to share these experiences with new friends”, says Mitchell.

Travelers and explorers will benefit from the vast knowledge of our destination experts, creative itineraries that are driven by Society members and our expansive, world-wide access. The Exploration Society is focused on the traveler who desires a custom trip to exotic destinations and exclusive experiences. The society’s concept makes it possible to take a trip with an intimate group consisting of couples and singles whose friendship they have enjoyed at these TES events.

The Exploration Society wants to encourage it’s members to dream big, share adventures and create stories. When asked why she wanted to form this group, McMillion quoted St. Augustine, “ ‘The world is a book and those who do not travel only read one page.’ I want to finish the book.” she said.

Jens Top 20 Reasons to Cruise with Crystal

Last Monday Will and I disembarked in Miami off the best cruise we have ever experienced! We were on a week long Caribbean cruise on the Crystal Serenity. Normally I would do a day by day review of our experience but I thought I would do this blog a little differently. Since I experienced so many unique differences on my Crystal cruise from all the other cruises I have been on, I thought I would make a list of all of my favorite things about the Serenity.

1. We were greeted by a crew member who took my backpack and escorted us to our cabin.

Not only were we personally escorted to our cabin but he also mentioned that he worked at the pool. From than on every time we went to the pool we were greeted by Robert by our last names. This may have been the first time that a crew member remembered our names but not the last. We truly felt like part of the Crystal family our entire time on board. For example every day when we went to breakfast Clark was there to greet us and take my tray from me to carry it to my table. Than we were asked if we would like coffee and fresh squeezed Orange Juice. I personally like the half orange and half grapefruit and they were glad to accommodate me.

2. Special requests at the dinning room

When at dinner I liked the side of bok choy that Will had on his dish and I mentioned that to my waiter. He came back with a serving dish of bok choy for me. I was told that from then on if I wanted to swap out side dishes or make special request to please do so.

3. Afternoon tea at the Bistro

We went to the Bistro for our complimentary latte and cappuccino one afternoon and they had set up a spread of cheeses, crackers, meats, scones and cream, and all sorts of deserts. What I loved most was the quality of cheeses that were offered!

4. Aft deck area

One of our favorite spots on the ship was the aft deck area. Our cabin was in the aft and was a short walk to a back patio area provided on each deck. There were deck chairs with area for shade or sun and a table with four or five chairs. This was a nice area where we could sun tan when we felt like more privacy. We also sat out there with our set of binoculars to watch ships passing by ... or just to read a book.

5. Cold towels and Mineral Water at the gym

When I went to the gym I was able to cool off with a cold towel and bottled water provided for me. There was also both spring water and mineral water being offered. I always finished my workout with the complimentary use of the steam room in the women's locker room and grabbed a mineral water.

6. Casino at the very forward of the ship

This was nice because I did not have to pass through the casino every time I needed to get somewhere on the ship. Plus if I was in the casino gambling we are offered complimentary drinks.

7. Green Tea Ice Cream

My favorite ice cream flavor on the cruise was the green tea. Scoops was open almost all day and evening with complimentary ice cream. They had different flavors each day, and fresh waffle cones. One day we got ourselves and waffle cone and savored it while we watched a movie (500 Days of Summer) in their Hollywood Theater. Once we were seated we were offered a popcorn! I just love going to the movies! The couple in the row in front of us turned around and smiled at us and just simply said "Date Night".

8. Real silverware even for room service

I thought what a nice touch to have real silverware even when ordering from room service. For our last night we chose to order room service for dinner. Our stewardess brought us the dinner menu from the main dining room where we selected what we would like to have for dinner. She set up our table with a tablecloth and we were served course by course in the privacy of our stateroom. If we chose to have room service for breakfast there was quite an extensive menu to choose from. We opted out on this cruise as we loved dinning on the outside patio on the aft of the ship.

9. Two choices of robes in our cabin

I was able to use the light kimono robe when I had just gotten back from the steam room or was drying my hair, and when I needed some extra warmth I put on the cozy Frette robe. Speaking of drying my hair they had both the drier on the bathroom wall and an extra drier in the vanity drawer so I didn't have to crowd the bathroom to do my hair.

10. Oversized bathroom towels

This was the first cruise where we truly had oversized plush towels. Love it!

11. The bathroom amenities

I walked in to notice Aveda products in bottles large enough to last the week. The shower head was an adjustable massaging shower head, which is nice in case I did not want to get my hair wet each time I got in the shower. I also loved the dual sinks and room enough for us both to be in there at the same time.

12. Complimentary Self Serve Laundry Room

Will and I actually did our laundry twice on this cruise. We did it once in the middle of the week and again the day before we left so we could come home with all clean clothes. Anything that helps us when we come home to reality is much appreciated. I forgot to take a photo of that but I'm sure you get the idea.

13. Perrier and Diet Coke

We just loved the fridge that magically refilled itself with our favorite drinks! Each day we found a full fridge of diet cokes for Will and Perrier for me. And to top it off they were all complimentary...do we see a pattern yet? COMPLIMENTARY...no signing my name all over the ship.

14. Comfortable pool chairs waiting for me when I am ready

How do you like the idea of getting up at 4am to put a towel on your pool chairs to be sure to have a chair when its time to get some sun? Yeah, me neither! I noticed on our cruise that not only were their open seats by the pool each time I went to the pool, but our friend Robert was there to ask us if we prefer seats in the sun or the shade and had fresh towels laying on them for us.

15. Outdoor shower by the pool

I just hate the feeling of saltwater drying on my skin after getting out of a salt water pool or the ocean. I got out of the pool looking for somewhere to rinse off. I not only found an outdoor shower but a shower with shampoo, conditioner, and refreshing body soap! Like I said...the little things :)

16. Renting movies for the room

Will and I like to get up real early and are active for most of the day. So we are not big on the nightlife while on vacation. I was happy to see that the Library had a very large complimentary selection of movies we could rent and bring back to our room to watch. We were able to pick two at a time so Will picked one he wanted and I got my pick. Than I mentioned to Will that I wished "Ghosts of Girlfriends Past" was available and the very nice woman working the library said she would call me when it came back in. Sometimes we watched a movie in the afternoon before we had ourselves a short nap. There is something wonderful about being on vacation and being able to take a nap (something I rarely am afforded at home)

17. Pregos Roasted Garlic Cloves

I think my favorite part of our dinner at Prego was the roasted garlic. That might sound silly considering I tried the mushroom soup which was amazing, and the butternut squash ravioli also to die for....but I cant remember the last time we went out for Italian and had that freshly roasted Garlic to spread on my breadsticks.

18. Sunsets from my balcony

I think we watched every sunset this week from our balcony. This was quite a fluke that the sun set on our side of the ship each night, and what a treat! Will even woke me up one morning to watch the most beautiful sunrise on our balcony. It will be difficult for me to pick just one picture as I must have hundreds!

19. Cold towels coming back from port

When we got back on the ship in St. Barts hot from the Caribbean sun we noticed a cooler full of cold towels. Details people.....

20. The Crew

I wanted to leave the best for last! The crew on the Serenity adds something to the cruise that can not be calculated into the price. They are like a family and treat you as part of their family. We felt genuinely welcome everywhere we went on the ship, and this was what made our experience so special.

As I am writing this list, I keep coming up with more examples such as the Walk on Water program, sushi at Silk Road, and my excellent spa treatment. I don't have room to write about everything we loved, you will just have to cruise on Crystal to experience it all for yourself.

Short Boston Getaway

Will and I took our first solo vacation in about a year this past weekend. We had the most fabulous time ever in Boston. What a great city to get away to for a long weekend. We stayed at one of our favorite hotel chains- Fairmont. The Fairmont Copley Plaza located centrally in Copley Square, and is one of the most historical buildings in the area. It was the most gorgeous hotel inside and out. We got there on a direct flight on Jet Blue and was lucky enough to get there without any hassle. I would have to say that Jet Blue is now my favorite airline to travel on for Domestic flights. I would highly recommend paying the additional $10-15 per leg for a premium seat. On Jet Blue you are able to pre-select an exit row seat which has the extra leg room, a real bonus when your husband is 6'5". Each seat has a personal TV with many channels to choose from.

We landed in Boston and took a cab to the Fairmont Copley Plaza. We were greeted by a friendly door man and walked into what could have been a museum. Our room was very spacious and comfortable.

I would have to say the weather held up for most of the three nights of our stay, which meant plenty of walking. We just loved walking everywhere we went and when we got tired we took the T. Some of the things we did while we were there: Walked the Freedom Trail, Ducks Tours, Museum of Science, lots of dining out!

I would have to say the main purpose behind this trip was to go to Fenway to see the Red Sox. Will is from New England and is a huge Red Sox fan, so I surprised him with tickets and planned a nice getaway for us. We had great seats and had a great time together at the ball park! We were even able to walk to and from the park from our hotel which was a short distance from Fenway.

Both of us said that our favorite meal was at the Barking Crab. The atmosphere was casual, it was outside but covered so we stayed warm, and the food was great! I got the crab legs and he got a basket with a variety of fried seafood. We shared some fried clams and raw oysters as an appetizer. If we didn't walk back to our hotel I don't know what I would have done. Lets just say we were STUFFED. For breakfast a must try is Mikes Diner. It was a local, friendly, delicious place to go eat. The place has a steady line but is well worth the wait. Our last night we ate at Piattini Wine Cafe on Newbury St. Piattini's is a small little Italian restaurant that you really must have a reservation for. Thanks to our concierge we were able to get in last minute. It was in a perfect location for a romantic walk down the street after dinner. I would also recommend taking a day stroll down Newbury street for some upscale shopping or window shopping if you prefer. You may even catch a celeb. walking down the street! Last but not least, we ate a quick lunch at Fanuel Hall, which never disappoints. Fanuel hall is like a giant food court with something for everyone.

Travel Tip: Something I don't stress enough to my clients but should is to utilize the Concierge! They are there to help you and they know all the best places to eat, shop, and sight see. They will tell you how to get there and make reservations if needed. If there is a sold out show that you would like to see, they might just be able to get you those tickets.

Well that's all folks! My next review should be on the Crystal Serenity sometime at the end of December, so keep an eye out. This will be my first cruise on Crystal and I'm definitely looking forward to it. Actually both Will and I are going so he is very excited too. We will be going to St. Maarten, Aruba, St. Barts and Grand Turk.

Guests/godparents to savor rare experience of anointing the cruise industry’s first new luxury vessel in six years at intimate ceremony in spectacular setting

June 8, 2009 (Miami) – The Yachts of Seabourn is planning an intimate ceremony for the naming of the newest addition to its award-winning fleet: Seabourn Odyssey. The highly anticipated event, set for June 24, 2009, will take place on deck as the sun sets behind the unmistakable skyline of Venice, Italy.

While naming ceremonies typically invite attendees to watch from shore as an honorary “godparent” names the vessel and breaks a bottle on its bow, the anointment of Seabourn Odyssey will be held on board with guests booked on the maiden voyage. Collectively, all of the guests will act as godparents, initiating the anointment with a bottle of Italian prosecco and giving the yacht its name. Each will receive a commemorative certificate from the event, and their names will be affixed to a plaque to be displayed on board.

With Venice as the backdrop, the colorful heritage of the city will be a touchstone throughout the daylong event. Guests arriving at Stazione Marittima terminal will be given a red carpet welcome, complete with musicians playing and festive banners and garland. Once all are on board, Seabourn Odyssey will depart for a stately cruise down the Guidecca Canal to Riva dei Sette Martiri, a docking location near the Piazza San Marco, where it will be moored for the ceremony.

An early dinner served in Odyssey’s superb dining venues will precede the ceremony. With darkness set to fall in Venice after 9:00pm, guests will return to find the deck transformed and the sun gilding the domes and turrets of the city – an enticing view to be enhanced by ceremonial music.

Though many details of the ceremony are being kept hush-hush, Seabourn has revealed that a magnum of sparkling prosecco spumante will be used to anoint Odyssey. The bottle will come from a vineyard in northeastern Italy, near where the vessel’s hull was crafted, and will be broken by means of an ingenious mechanism designed especially for the event.

Review of Cunard's Queen Victoria Ship Inspection

On January 13th I took a short drive to the other coast to go and visit Cunard's Queen Victoria. I was one of few agents who were taken aboard to tour the ship. This was the first day of the Queen Victoria's second world cruise. It was quite the site seeing not only one but two queens docked across from one another. I took a few nice photos of the Queen Mary 2 from aboard the Victoria.

As always I started my tour from top to bottom trying to get a picture of most all the public areas so I can pass on that information to my clients. The Queen Victoria has restricted access to decks 11 and 12 which are exclusively for the use of Queens Grill passengers. If accessing this area by elevator guests will need to use their Queens Grill room key. We took a peek at their small and intimate Queens Grill dinning room and across the hall, their concierge lounge where a nice couple were relaxing sipping a cocktail upon their first day of their voyage. Than we went to the outside area which included The Courtyard, the Grills Terrace, and Upper Terrace. These areas were a great retreat for passengers who would like some privacy and quiet to read a good book or have an afternoon cocktail. My only complaint would have to be the faux wood decks. I myself do prefer the real wood giving it a warmer tone and more luxurious feel. The lounge chairs on the Terrace were comfortably lined and cushioned.

Deck 9 took me through the Lido buffet, two pools and hot tubs, and a large area of the forward dedicated to the Canyon Ranch spa and fitness center. I was pleased with the spa sanctuary and the pleasant music piped in throughout. The aromatherapy was wonderful, I just love the smell of a the eucalyptus and lavender. The spa seems to puts me in a state of relaxation right as I enter the waiting room. The fitness equipment was all new and up to date with the individual flat screens on the cardio machines. They had spin bikes as well as room for a variety of aerobics classes. The sign up sheets that appeared to be most popular were Pilates, Yoga and Body Tone classes. They also had my favorite class onboard! ZUMBA! If you are a fan of salsa music and dancing in general, this is a must try class for all levels of dancers. The key is to relax, have fun, and you don’t have to remember steps like some other classes (Step aerobics) Put me in a step class and I will be lost in a heartbeat and most of the time your'll find me going in the wrong direction.

Than I walked past 5 decks of cabins, unfortunately the sailing was full and so I was not be able to go inside and take pictures of the cabins. I did manage to sneak a peak of a cabin steward getting a room ready for a guest who had not yet arrived, but not quick enough to snap a photo. Sorry :(

Decks one through three were mostly the public areas of the ship centered around a gorgeous atrium. They had a large replica of Big Ben as a center piece, as shown below. They had a very elegant two story library filled with all types of books and reference materials. There were also books to read up on the ports of call for the voyage. I passed a couple nice bars and lounges on my tour all staffed with friendly faces. The theater was quite a sight and the boxes were a very nice touch for those who want to make their evening at the theater extra special. The Golden Lion Pub was filled with happy patrons drinking their beer and watching sports on the large flat panel TVs placed throughout. Todd English, their specialty restaurant was very nicely appointed and intimate for that special night out for dinner. I was not able to sample to food but from what I hear it is fabulous.

I would say those were the highlight of my day on the Queen Victoria and as always it was very sad to leave the ship as we passed those cruisers embarking on their first day of their World Voyage. I sometimes catch myself wondering how long it would take for them to notice a stow- away hiding out in the Library. Than I come to my senses.

Celebrity Solstice Review

Jen's 2 Nights on the Celebrity Solstice Inaugural

Last weekend I was very fortunate to be chosen to represent Betty Maclean Travel, Inc. on a 2 night inaugural cruise of the brand new Celebrity Solstice!!! I have to say I was was impressed the Solstice and came back with many pictures and a very full stomach. The Solstice surprised me on many different levels. As many have said on the cruise she was posh, hip, and very well decorated. They had 10 restaurants to choose from all of which were fabulous, as I had the chance to sample many menu items. The nightlife was one of the best I have seen at sea. They had European style circus shows- much like Cirque du Soleil. Their disco was fun and jam packed due to the great music, lighting and fun seats including those that hung from the ceiling! Their new glass blowing show by the Corning Museum of Glass was a truly unique experience on a cruise.

Staterooms-

Tina and I were in cabin 9180 in a category 1B which I thought was very nice. When we got the Solstice first thing as always I unpacked all my stuff and in doing so I found that the closet space was fairly small on the standard balcony cabin that we had. I did learn if you prefer more closet space a Sky Suite is perfect as they have his and hers closets and more room in the cabin overall. I than checked out the bathroom which was very well designed. They had the shaving foot rest in the shower as promised which I thought was brilliant! Ladies you know how difficult shaving in a cruise shower can normally be. But the shower stall was a bit short if someone of my husband’s height were showering (6'5). I was very happy with the chairs on the balcony as they ditched their usual plastic chairs and replaced them with very nice comfortable reclining chairs. Speaking of chairs...I was told the CEO himself sat in every style of chair on the ship for final approval! If this is correct he did a fantastic job picking out the seating throughout the ship! I would have to say there were more wonderfully comfortable places to sit than on any other ship I have been on. I loved the beds placed by the pool with privacy dividers, hammocks, lounge chairs and my most favorite the hanging chairs in the disco.

Nightlife-

I was very impressed by the shows on board as I would normally sit in the back to sneak out in the middle or skip the show completely, but this was different. The show I was able to catch amidst my busy couple of days was "Solstice" which was a Cirque du Soleil type show. It was a collection of short but exciting acts with great lighting and design. It captured my attention from start to finish.

There were several other bars and lounges for all kinds of tastes in the evening. At Cellar Masters they had fine wines and mellow laid back music and atmosphere. Across the way there was the Martini Bar/ Ice bar which was a fun and sexy bar to say the least. There was ample seating around the bar where the bar was lined with cold layer of ice. They had a smaller bar just to its side where they did a martini and caviar tastings as well. The bartenders were fun and performed tricks for those around the bar. I would have to say this bar was an overall hit and guests were sure to find whichever type of Martini they desired here. You might want to try the French Martini which seemed to be all the rage that night!

Well that is not all as they also had the Observation Sky Bar, Casino, Micahels, Passports, The Pool Bar with music accompanied by a fabulous fountain light show. If I could say anything about the top decks at night is that the lighting was truly something special. It was like being at a hip club in South beach.

Dance the night away-

Celebrity did a smart thing in drawing attention just outside the Quasar Disco after the show. They had the most wonderful quartet singing which drew quite a crowd. Normally I would have expected that to be a bust but really they were very talented and cute too! As that ended they drew the crowd into Quasar for some late night dancing! There was a great mix of fun music and the place stayed packed until late into the night. After some late night dancing a bunch of us wanted something to eat and when normally at this time of night (2am) everything is closed their Bistro 5 was still open for late night diners. We helped ourselves to some crepes and brownie sundaes before we had to get to bed for our sad day of debarkation.

Glassblowing on the lawn-

The glass blowing had to be one of my favorites being a big fan of the arts! The shows are there for your entertainment several times a day by the Corning Museum of Glass and they sure did a fantastic job. The glassblower who did our show had been blowing glass for over 25 years but has never on a moving cruise ship. They did say they had to adjust to the additional wind and temporal weather conditions. That certainly did not stop them from creating a very nice piece of art all while getting to watch. The neat part was that they had overhead cameras to catch the parts you could not see from your seat. They even had a camera in the glass kennel, now that is high tech!

Speaking of the Lawn, I do think that is a very innovative thing to create for a ship, however for me it wasn't really something to get all that excited about. Maybe it’s because I live in a city that has grass everywhere I go, but I just could not get myself to understand the hype. I did love the signs they posted which said "Grass is Resting"!! How funny is that? They even had foot washing stations, yes folks you heard right! Foot washing stations! haha that is just too funny!

Treats for your taste buds-

There were so many dinning choices on board the Solstice! I tried my best to try all of them but let me tell you that was not an easy task! My personal favorite is always trying the ice cream. I would rate the buffet ice cream station an 8. They had hard scoopable ice cream made up of many flavors and a topping bar! But I will still give Holland America the one up on ice cream as they had waffle cones and the yummiest of homemade flavors. Than I discovered the Gelato bar....I would have to say that was absolutely divine but....there was a small cover charge to that ice cream.

Ok off the ice cream and on to the rest. The main dinning Grand Epernay had such an elegant design with its super light colors and clean lines. I would say it shined and sparkled but not too much over the top. I enjoyed the everything from the appetizer to the desert. And if that were not enough our waiter even over heard us talking about how much we love chocolate and brought us each a tasty piece of chocolate!

The specialty restaurants were all in one area of the ship with a low lit lounge that flows out to all four. The lounge also connected to Michaels club where they kept the same casual relaxed atmosphere as their previous ships only cutting out the cigars. I can say this ship has cut out smoking in most areas including verandas and left only a couple areas to smoke designated on the ship.

The four specialty restaurants were Tuscan Grill, Silk Harvest, Blu (for Aqua Spa Guests), and Muranos. They did a tasting outside the restaurants one afternoon and I would have to say that all four are worth dinning in. Another great thing about having all four in the same area is less crowds. I did not notice crowds standing outside the restaurants at all in comparison of Grand Epernay right before dinner. This is one great perk for me as I hate standing out there with a huge crowd waiting for the dinning room to open.

Cost of the specialty restaurants ranged from $20 to $30 per person. At Murano they serve a blend of classic and modern continental cuisine; Silk Harvest for Asian food featuring everything from Pakistani to Chinese and Thai to Vietnamese; and Tuscan Grille, a steakhouse venue with an Italian twist, including an antipasti bar.

Retail Therapy-

Yes, that is what the sign said! I am sad to say I did not make any purchases on this cruise but not because they didn't have anything I didn't want....They had some of the best shops I've seen on a cruise ship and the layout was more like a high-end shopping center. They had less logo type shops and more of what we really want to buy....things to wear, accessorize, and sparkle! Nice taste Celebrity!!!

Solarium-

This was one of my favorite spots on the ship. It was fully covered in case of rain showers and the lighting was soothing. They had nice music and chairs that can put you to sleep. At night the fountain lights up and dances to the rhythm of the music.

Aqua Spa-

Think sanctuary of relaxation! I think for me this was quite a revelation in cruising in the premium market. When you book your cabin in the Aqua Class you not only get a sizable amount of wonderful amenities but you are also unlimited access to the Persian Gardens and relaxation room. Within the Persian Garden you have gentle music, mosaic tile heated chairs to melt your stress away, steam rooms with light aromatherapy, and rain showers to refresh your minds just before your trip back to the cabin. This was just the tip of the iceberg for me and Aqua Class. After seeing all that the Aqua Class offers I would highly recommend this to any of my clients. The room comes with all the amenities of the concierge level room and than some! Some of the highlights for me are the large terry robes, champagne and fruit basket, yoga mats, pillow menus to get it just right, and upgraded showers with the Hansgrohe shower heads. After that relaxing morning at the spa, you might want a light lunch at the Aqua Spa Cafe. After a long afternoon by the pool or maybe a trip ashore, Aqua Spa guests are allowed access to the specialty restaurant Blu. This dinning is reserved especially for Aqua Spa guests and Celebrity was gracious enough to invite me to dinner in Blu on our first night. This was such a fabulous experience all the way from the above and beyond service down to the filet that I could have cut with my fork!

High Tech Ship!

Overall this ship really outdid any other in the tech department. One of the high tech wonders were the ipod hookups on all the cardio equipment in the fitness center. This enables you to hook up your ipod/iphone to keep it charged and watch and listen to your ipod off their very large touch screen. I also loved the interactive t.v.s in the rooms and the features it provided. I was able to very easily navigate the t.v. screen to order room service, watch tv, watch movies, make dinner reservations and more... Let’s touch on this movie thing a bit more. I have to say a large downfall of most ships is you have great first run movies playing all day and night, but......I usually end up watching the end, middle, and than beginning in that order. That is because I always turn the tv on right in the middle of a movie. But with on demand you can pick from a large list of free movies and this allows you to pause - for when you want to go off and get a spa treatment, eat, take a nap etc... and than resume later on. If you don’t like the selection of the free movies they also have pay per view movies to purchase. If you want to use your phone or your laptop for a small fee the whole ship is also wireless.

Holland America Eurodam

This weekend I received an invitation for a ship inspection aboard the brand new Holland America Eurodam! What a ship she is! I have to say I was very impressed with the contemporary design and sophisticated elegance. It was larger than Holland America Lines’ other ships yet still as traditional and intimate. I wish I had more time to truly experience all that she had to offer though I did manage to get a “taste”. I say this quite literally as Holland America treated us to a fabulous lunch in her main dinning room. This was quite a treat and much larger than my usual lunch consisting of 5 courses and wine.

I will start with the cabins as I toured my way from the Penthouse cabin down the standard inside. The penthouse was quite the sight. As you enter the cabin you pass the butlers pantry which would be used to host dinner party served course by course or a cocktail party with your friends and family. The living room has a table for 8 and a large sofa that sleeps two. The living room was quite comfortable and had flat screen TVs throughout. There was a door to the very spacious balcony which brought me to the outdoor Jacuzzi. That had to be the highlight of the cabin for me, as I would sit out there quite a bit. What a treat to be able to sit outside in my private balcony in the Jacuzzi while sailing the Mediterranean! They had two bathrooms, guest and master. The master bathroom had a split bath and it was gorgeous! There were lots of gold furnishings and even a tub with a fountain shaped like a lion.

The next level down was the Deluxe Veranda Suite. I highly recommend this category stateroom as it does provide a substantial list of extra amenities, among them the priority embarkation and the Neptune Concierge Lounge. As I boarded the ship I saw a separate area just to facilitate the boarding of the Deluxe Veranda Suites and above. This makes the process stress free with shorter lines and fewer crowds. Once these guests get on the ship they may stop by the Neptune lounge to meet the concierge and have a drink and hors d'oeuvres. Some other wonderful benefits to being in a Deluxe Veranda Suite is the complimentary laundry. When cruising with my husband we certainly take advantage of this amenity. By having our laundry done throughout the cruise we don't have to pack as much and can go home with clean clothes while not having to do laundry later myself. As for the cabin they came with a large wrap around couch and terry robes and towels. The veranda was a nice size and had wicker chairs with soft cushions and a foot rest. I liked the colors of these new cabins and the couch was very comfortable and fit in very well with the décor.

The Superior Veranda Suites were also very nice, though a slight drop in size from the Deluxe Veranda Suites. Most of the difference in size seemed to come from the living room area where they replaced a wrap around couch with a smaller couch that sleeps one.

The Deluxe Veranda Ocean views are slightly larger than a standard balcony with a love seat in the sitting area across from a vanity.

The interior stateroom comes in two sizes and if I were to be forced into an inside cabin I would definitely chose the larger stateroom as it has a decent size sitting area.

Next is what I think will be very popular on the Eurodam is the Spa staterooms. They come in inside, ocean view and suite cabins. Be aware of the balcony category that is a spa stateroom which has a French balcony. You can stand outside on it but there is no room for chairs, so make sure to speak with your travel consultant (Jen Mitchell) when choosing a cabin. It might not be so terrible if you like being able to open your balcony door but never sit outside on it. The spa staterooms are in close proximity to the spa and include some extra amenities such as:

Organic cotton bathrobes and slippers
iPod™ docking station
Soothing color palette
In-room slate table-top water feature
Yoga mat
Pedometer for use aboard ship
Fitness DVD
No-host minibar initially stocked with specialty waters
Cut-fruit tray at embarkation

Now moving along to the public areas of the ship…..I just loved the culinary arts center. I have seen it on their other ships, but this one was just fabulous! They have culinary demonstrations as well as other classes such as towel folding. Since I am a total movie buff, I was very excited about their screening room. It had a very large screen and the most comfortable reclining leather seats. Speaking of very comfortable seats I would have to say Holland America has the most comfortable seating in their Crows nest and Explorations Café. Something that they tried on the Eurodam that is different from their other ships is putting the Explorations Café up where the Crows Nest is, giving you a great view while you sip your latte and read a book.

On to my favorite part….dinning! The buffet on the Eurodam has a very special restaurant called Canaletto which is a reservations only Italian restaurant which is complimentary for all guests. Tamarind Restaurant and Silk Den Lounge is their new Pan Asian Restaurant and lounge with panoramic views of the ocean and Lido Pool area. Sadly there was no time to try this restaurant but it will be top of my list when I cruise on her for a regular sailing.

The main dinning room was where Holland America was gracious enough to serve us lunch. I had the duck pâté, seafood chowder, mahi mahi with rice and vegetables and a fabulous fruit pastry for desert. I can surely say I left the ship full!

Something new that Holland has done on the Eurodam is add new poolside cabanas. The cabanas are available to reserve by the day or by the cruise. Available on two decks, they are tastefully decorated, filled with amenities and provide an exquisite poolside retreat. The Retreat is your own private oasis located high above the rest…the ultimate place to relax surrounded by healthy refreshments and luxurious amenities.

Porsche 2008 Business Aircraft and Jet Preview

Tina and I received a VIP invitation to the Porsche and Private Jet show in Ft. Lauderdale last week. This was quite a treat to be able to experience the private aircraft available from high-quality operators in the Virgin Charter Marketplace. From the all new Legacy by Embraer to the luxurious Gulfstream, Hawker Beechcraft’s Premier 1A, Cessna, Cirrus, Eclipse, Pilatus, Bombardier and more. Moving is hard!

Well, I never knew how hard moving was until a couple weeks ago. I've moved from house to house before but never to another city. One thing I have to say is that the POD that we got is a life saver. We have been able to take our time getting it loaded as its been on our driveway a little over a week. I don't know what I would do without my husband cause he has been all the muscle in this move so far. Don't think I have been sitting around watching him work though, I have been busting my butt! Each day we have dolled out some tasks for us to do and from first thing in the morning to late at night we have been hard at work. Right now I am sitting at my computer with my cats trapped in the bedroom. I cant walk on the floors as it has all been refinished and luckily we have an sliding door from the bedroom to the back patio. My cats are flipping out! Each day we have less and less furniture around the house and they cant understand what in the world is going on. I just wish I could explain it to them :) They will be so happy once we reach Naples though as they will have their very own lanai to sit out in!

Good-Bye Tallahassee: Hello Naples!

Will and I are very sad to say that we are leaving Tallahassee soon. But.....we are happy to be moving to Naples which is closer to family (and the beach). We don't know what is in store for us yet but I'm sure whatever it is, it will be full of surprises and fun. As Mickey Mouse always says "See you real soon" Tallahassee....we will surely miss you!

Jen's Top Five Cruise Tips of the Month

1. Day one of your cruise start with the top deck and work your way down and around the ship in order to familiarize yourself with your new home. Keep your deck "cheat sheet" in your pocket.

2. If you want some extra amenities with your cruise check and see what some of the Cruise Line Suites offer. For example the Holland America Deluxe Veranda Suites have a Concierge Lounge with snacks and drinks served, free dry cleaning/ laundry, Evening Hors d'oeuvres, Priority embarkation/debarkation etc....... check with me to see which lines offer which benefits!

3. If you are a Sushi lover like I am, you will be interested to know that Crystal has a new restaurant called Silk Road which offer Nobu's trademark blend of classically styled Japanese foods with Peruvian and European influences at no extra cost. Although there is no cost reservations are highly recommended as it is a smaller restaurant.

4. If you are going on an Alaska Cruise/ Cruise tour try to fit in either a Kenai Fjords Cruise or a Prince William Sound Cruise before you board the cruise! It is a highlight for most everyone I have had go on it. On this tour you will be on a smaller boat with under 150 people which brings you closer to the glaciers and the sea life! If you want this experience the whole time talk to me about doing a small ship Alaska experience. Another not to miss Alaska excursion is taking a float plane or helicopter ride. As an experienced Alaska agent I can help you in planning your side trips as there are so many great ones to chose from.

5. Check with your agent or the airline you are flying with to find out their baggage regulations. The airlines are tightening up on their policies and if your bag it too heavy or too large it will cost you.

Holland America Maasdam to Canada/ New England

We just loved our most recent cruise on the Maasdam! The weather was wonderful for the week we were there. As for the staff, that was the best experience we’ve had. My favorite things about the ship were the Crows Nest, the Explorations Cafe, and the food! I love how the buffet at dinner offered the same menu as the dining room. I also loved how they had ice cream all the time at no charge. I am embarrassed to say that I ate a waffle cone almost every day! haha

My only complaints were the odor in the room. Holland America explained that it was caused by an Eco-friendly machine they used that caused a mild occasional odor when the balance was off . Our AC was also broken and only had one temperature, but they did fix that for us as soon as I mentioned it. These are just some of the things you might have come up with when you are on an older ship. I have to say though, that I love how this class are smaller in size than their newer ships. They have less guests and are very easy to get around. They also had all new hardware...new beds (oh so comfy), new flat screen t.v.s, and DVD players.

We decided to stay an extra night in Boston and in Montreal. I feel that on a trip that requires air everyone should come in early if they can. 1. It makes embarkation day more relaxing 2. Allows time to spend time in the embarkation port city 3. In case of flight problems you are there early and won't miss the ship. I just loved my time in Boston and wish I had a few more days there. We stayed at the Hyatt Regency which was in the perfect location of downtown Boston. There were plenty of things to do in walking distance from the hotel. We walked some of the Freedom trail and had lunch at Fanuel Hall. I must tell you Fanuel Hall is like the biggest food court I have ever seen. There must have been over a hundred food vendors with food from all over the world. Our choice was the New England Clam Chowder in a bread bowl :) (YUM)

Our favorite port was Bar Harbor. We did a Lobster Bake and an Acadia National Park Tour. The tour guide kept us entertained and was highly knowledgeable. They took us to several scenic points one of which was Cadillac Mountain. Than we had lunch at a great restaurant and had whole lobsters and mussels. That was the best meal of the week by far.

Another port we just loved was Quebec City. This was like being in Europe walking down the old cobblestone streets. Getting off the ship there are all kinds of boutique shops with local artists. Then we walked up the hill (not too bad of a hike) and toured the fort and walked down some more streets of shopping. There is enough shopping to keep you busy if that is your mission! Than we enjoyed High Tea at the Fairmont Chateau Frontenac. It was a beautiful castle with a view of the city! The tea was so well done and enjoyed by all.

In Charlottetown, PEI we did a city tour with a stop at Ann of Green Gables. This was very nostalgic especially for my mother in law who read all of Green Gables books. We did this tour with the cruise line and was a bit full, the trip was on a coach with over 40 people. For this one I would recommend trying a private tour.

Halifax, Nova Scotia was one of the places I did not book a tour. That day we went to the Citadel and they took us on a free tour of the fort. Then we walked to the Maritime Heritage Museum which had a great exhibit of the Titanic.

Sydney was very windy and overcast that day so I decided to spend the day on the ship. I went to the fitness center which had all new equipment, and spent time in the Explorations Cafe. It was like going to a Borders, which is something I just love to do. I had a yummy cafe latte while I sat on a wonderfully comfortable chair and read a book.

Overall I was very pleased with this cruise and highly recommend it. Although fall is the most popular time to go on this trip I think the spring was a great time of year to visit as well. The weather was nice and cool, and the colors of green ranged from light to dark shades of green which created a fantastic view where ever we went. I also love Holland and would rate them very high amongst the other lines I have been on so far.

Jen's Top Five Cruise Tips of the Month

1. On Disney Cruise line they have free sodas at the buffet so get your refills there.

2. Make sure to look at your newsletter for activities and shows that day. Some cruises have a portion you can tear off to carry around with you.

3.If you are a big coffee drinker you might want to bring a travel mug with you to fill up at the buffet to carry around with you. They also sell them with a coffee package on most cruise lines if you like specialty coffee drinks like lattes. The cup can also make a good souvenir.

4.Talk to your cruise counselor about what you want to experience on your cruise. There may be a cruise out there you have not even hear of before, and better suited for you. There are more cruise lines offering cruises than you may think.

5. Try the dinning room for lunch. I am usually pleasantly surprised, plus they aren't crowded and you get great service.

Disney Land and Sea 2008

This year for my personal vacation time Will and I went on a Disney Land Sea vacation. This was if not our best vacation, the closest to it! We spent 4 nights at the Animal Kingdom Lodge and 3 nights on the Disney Wonder. Disney transported us from the hotel to the ship and back and made the whole process seamless.

The hotel we stayed at was fabulous and loved everything about it. The rooms even had a fridge and we bought breakfast and lunch foods at Albertsons to save some money to splurge on wonderful Disney themed restaurants for dinner. Our favorite dinner was the Luau dinner show at the Polynesian hotel. The food and entertainment were amazing. We packed our sandwiches and apples and put those in a cooler and brought a backpack in to the parks. The fridge was a lifesaver. We also thought that the lobby and the pool areas were especially nice. The resort even has Savannah view rooms where you can sit out on your balcony and animals such as Giraffes are right there in front of you.

We got a 2 day Park Hopper Pass and spent the first day at Magic Kingdom and Hollywood Studios. The next day we went to Animal Kingdom for the whole day. We had such a great time at all the parks. We especially loved the Roller coaster and went on thunder mountain railroad 6 times and Everest 7 times! I know we are crazy like that. We mostly did that with fast passes so that we did not have to wait long. I am a huge fan of the fast pass! We also did the safari in Animal Kingdom and saw tons of animals. I was actually very surprised at how much we saw. We also spent a whole day at the Blizzard Beach water park. That was a ton of fun and wished we had more time there.

Thursday they had a motor coach waiting outside our hotel that took us over to the cruise ship. It was about an hour ride and than, there we were on our 3 day cruise to relax after running around the parks. Nassau we just got off for lunch and went to the Seafood Haven in the Fish Fry area. I love their conk fritters! Than we spent the rest of the day on the ship to relax in the adult only pool area and lounges.

Castaway Cay was my very favorite day. We docked right at the island so no need to tender it. That saved valuable time for relaxing. We went right over to Serenity Bay which is their adult only area of the Island. They even had a tramway to take us over there. They had their own buffet and equipment rental booth. We rented floats and laid out all day and the weather was perfect. We than had lunch at the buffet which was great! They had ribs, chicken, steak, burgers and fries. They even had fresh tropical fruit like mango and papaya. I was bad and had the cookie dough ice cream :)

The Disney shows were great and was so impressive. They did a Toy Story the Musical show on the second night. I usually skip the shows but on here I went to all three. The rotated dinning was fun as each night we were in a different themed restaurant. My favorite was Triton's for the food and Animators Palate for the theme.

Really there was so much I could say about this trip but the video below says it all!

Regent Navigator Ship Inspection

Today I went to Port Canaveral to go onboard the Regent Seven Seas Navigator for the day. I was invited to go and see the ship, starting with a presentation on Regent, followed by a tour of the ship. Than we had lunch in the Compass Rose dining room. For me it was more of a subtle difference from the premium cruise lines out there. It was the smaller details that made it stand out from the others.

The fitness center had all the state of the art equipment including flat panel monitors on the cardio machines. They even had a fridge full of complimentary water bottles. How convenient!

The cabins were very nice. The starting cabin was 300 sq. ft. with a large picture window and a nice size sitting area. For me my favorite was the split bath and walk in closet in all the cabins. Check out the balconies!

They had a cafe with a professional barista! I had myself a latte and it was very good. This coming from quite the coffee critic.

The dining was definitely worth talking about. The tables were set with fine china and silver, with a beautiful presentation. Daniel and I ordered the halibut which was tender and flaked right off with my fork. Chynell had the filet mignon which she said was like butter. She could have cut it with her fork it was so tender. Yum I know! And the servers were wonderful; it was certainly a fine dining experience.

Over all the day was well spent and I am full on my way to completing my LCS (Luxury Cruise Specialist) certification. This kind of firsthand experience is great for us as cruise consultants so that we know the products we are recommending to you our clients.

1. Take (or you can buy on the ship gift shop) a lanyard with a clear card holder on it to carry your room key around your neck. It is much more accessible than having it in your wallet or having to hand-carry it.

2. If you are a big Coke drinker, many cruise lines have a coke card you can purchase, which is cheaper than buying drinks individually. Unless you are on a luxury cruise line, drinks are not free; with the exception of coffee, tea, and water.

3. You don't have to book your shore excursions with the Cruise line, but be careful where you book. A company I recommend and use for my personal vacations is Shore Trips. To browse their trips go to http://www.funseas.com/ and click on SHORE TRIPS . Most times Shore Trips have smaller more personalized trips than the cruise line. You will probably be less likely to be put on a motor coach of 40 people or more. One thing I find comforting is they have the same guarantee the cruise lines have, making sure you dont miss the ship.

4. Ladies, if you have thick hair, it is usually a good idea to take your own hair drier. I have found that many of the ones on cruises are not very powerful, plus the location of some of them makes it hard for two people to get ready at the same time.

5. Most important tip of all, when on the ship, forget all your worries back home and just relax and be pampered! Most of us don't have that option in our every day lives!"

FINAL Passport Rule Issued for Land and Sea Borders

Departments of Homeland Security and of State issued the final rule making concerning the requirements of passports for land and sea border crossings under the Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative. After years of development following 9/11, this ruling is the end of the process and can be considered FINAL ensuring you will have the proper identification when traveling.

Effective June 1, 2009, the following rules take effect for cruise passengers:

U.S. citizens on cruise voyages that begin and end at the same U.S. port (closed-loop itineraries) must show proof of citizenship* and government-issued photo ID (such as a driver’s license). A passport will not be required for passengers that fall into this category.

*Documents include: Original or certified copy of birth certificate; Naturalization papers; Consular Report of Birth Abroad issued by Department of State

All other passengers and/or itineraries (such as cruises which begin in one U.S. port and return to a different U.S. port or any cruise that begins or ends in a foreign port) will require a passport or other recognized document. For a list of accepted documents, see http://www.travel.state.gov/The good news for a majority of cruise passengers – American citizens that leave and return on their cruise from the same U.S. port – is that the travel document requirements will remain largely unchanged from how the industry is operating today.

Jen's Top Five Cruise Tips of the Month

1. Specialty restaurants cover charge includes the gratuity. Even though there is a line item to add an extra tip, its just that: "extra".

2. Leave valuables, excess cash and unneeded credit cards aboard while on shore excursions.

3. On debarkation day try to RELAX. Do not wait in the stairwells with all your bags as it will only only lead to frustration. Get yourself some breakfast or sit in one of the lounges as you wait for your color to be called.

4. As for Embarkation, try not to get to the port too early. For Caribbean cruises they usually let you start checking in at 12:00pm. If you arrive earlier than that you will end up waiting in a boring sitting area with no entertainment.

5. The elevators are going to be crowded around dinner and show times. A bunch of crabby people waiting for the elevators will only stir each other up even more; why not walk off that crème brûlée and take the stairs — or maybe do a lap on the Promenade Deck.

1. Passport requirements continue to change so always check with your travel consultant to make sure you have what you need to take your cruise.

2. Notify your travel consultant of any special dietary restrictions or requests at least 60 days prior to departure.

3. Let us know about any medical needs. You might need to fill out forms to get letters from a doctor. Your travel consultant will help you with that.

4. Arrange for a pre night hotel stay before your cruise. You never know what might happen as far as airline delays, who wants to miss the ship?

5. Got your eye on that something special in the onboard mall? Resist the urge to buy until the last day of the cruise. Many items inevitably go "on sale"

1. Make your spa and specialty restaurant reservations on the first day of your cruise.

2. Bring walkie talkies if you are traveling with others you want to keep track of on the cruise. (make sure they have good range)

3. Book your shore excursions in advance that way you get to do what you wanted once you get to port. (You wouldn't want the excursion you looked at before the cruise to the sold out or wait listed)

4. Tell us if you or your loved one is celebrating a special occasion, we will give you ideas if you want to do something extra special on your cruise.

Mel's Bachelorette Cruise on the Sovereign

My sister is getting married March 15! I am so happy for her! So what better way to have a party than to take a cruise with 7 of your bridesmaids???? We decided to take our cruise on a short 3 night cruise to the Bahamas on the Sovereign of the Seas. What a trip that was......

Ill tell you right now it was not the typical cruise for me. Usually I am with my husband where we have full days at port and have dinner...ma bye a show...and to bed we go. This cruise was a big party! We started by decorating her cabin with all kinds of streamers and stickers.....we also decorated the bachelorette so all were sure to notice the purpose of this trip for her :) She had on her veil, tierra, sash, and blinking accessories of all kinds. She was definitely noticed by everyone.

Some highlights:

We did Karaoke and sang "Its My Party"....Oh did the crowd love us!!!haha between both of our terrible voices we surely were not candidates for American Idol, that's for sure!

Dancing till close every night in the Voltage disco...I guess there was no need for the fitness center this cruise :)

We sampled food from all areas of the ship :)

4 hour Sail and Snorkel trip on a catamaran and got our base tan...

Went to Senior Frogs Saturday night where Mel headed up a Congo line around the club where they poured shots in her mouth :)

We spent our last day at Coco Cay laying in the sun getting a tan listening to Calypso music. I rented myself a raft and floated in the Caribbean for a while.

I know she had a blast and so did all the bridesmaids on this cruise!!!!

Celebrity Mercury 2007

This September Will and I went on the Celebrity Mercury out of Seattle. It was my first time to any of these places and my first time on Celebrity. I loved it all! I loved the hotel that we stayed in, in Seattle! It was the Grand Hyatt and I will always recommend it to my clients. The bathroom was huge with a deep tub and a separate shower. I had a bit of free time to roam downtown Seattle (the hotel was situated smack in the center of downtown) and all the high-end shopping. I even went into Barneys, and Nordstrom’s and bought myself and beautiful pair of crystal earrings. I can’t help myself when it comes to sparkly things :) I could not believe the number of Starbucks there. I think one day Starbucks will take over the world...hehe. Of course we also went to the famous Pike St. Market and bought ourselves a little snack. Later that night we went to dinner at the Space Needle which had a spectacular view of the city.

The ship was midsize and I loved that it was easy to get around. I was greeted by a man with white gloves and a glass of Champagne. Now I was starting to feel the Celebrity treatment! Another thing I loved about this ship is at breakfast I was taking my tray to my table and a waiter came and helped me with my tray. Then, he offered to get me some coffee. I was impressed! That back area of the ship even had a waffles and pancake station by morning, and pizza and pasta by day. The buffet never seemed crowded either.

On the formal night of the cruise I even got my hubby Will to dress in his tux :) He looked so handsome!

The ports of Victoria and Nanaimo were wonderful. I especially loved Butchart Gardens. I have never seen so many beautiful flowers all in one place! I took so many pictures it was unbelievable. Nanaimo had a very quaint small town feel with little shops and coffee shops. Victoria seemed to have a ton of Gelato Ice Cream places so I had to see what all the fuss was about and was very satisfied with my mint chocolate flavor.

Jen and Wills Alaska Hosted August 27, 2007

All I can say is WOW! Well, actually there is a lot more I can say but the fact is this was the best cruise I have taken yet. Will (my husband)and I took a group of 50 wonderful people to Alaska and boy did we have a great time. I have to say this was a great bunch and they really kept us smiling....Most were from Tallahassee but some came from other places in the US and Jose Ma and Gin Tugas came all the way from the Philippines!

I know I should try to keep this short but there is just so much to say about our time there. I thought I would break it down almost by the places we went to keep my mind somewhat organized while typing this. So here I go...........

FLIGHT- While this was not the longest flight I have been on it sure came close. We flew in from Tallahassee to Atlanta and from Atlanta to Anchorage. The good news is we got to watch 3 movies which helped the time go by. We landed at about 7:30pm which was late my time ....11:30pm.

ANCHORAGE- When we got to Anchorage for some reason we were wide awake and ready to check out the city and quickly changed clothes and went to dinner at the Glacier Brewhouse. We also happened to see the best sunset ever! It was all colors of pink, red, orange and lit up over the mountains which were just amazing. Now back to food (Notice I’ll do this often)I splurged and had the king crab legs which I was thinking about for weeks before my trip. They were delicious! We also shared a peanut butter chocolate pie type desert. YUMMMM :) The food totally made me crash, mind you it was by that time 2:30 our time so we hit the hay for the night.

Funny thing happened the next morning....you know how jet lag works, and being that we are 4 hours behind in Alaska I woke up at what I thought was 4am thinking there was no way I could sleep any longer. Well, after getting up and dressed we found out the clock in our room was set to another time zone and it was in fact 7:00am...Great, just in time for our breakfast buffet! hehe

In Anchorage there was so much to do. We spent the entire day checking out Anchorage top to bottom, hoping to burn off some of the food we ate and were about to eat :) First thing we did was take a Trolley Tour which was a lot of fun and only $10 each, and we got to see a lot of Anchorage in just an hour. Than we walked into quite a few gift shops on 4th ave. What do you know its food time again...so we decided to have a quick reindeer sausage hot dog from a street vendor. We took a little longer walk to the Ulu factory to see them making the authentic Ulus and watch the Salmon running from the bridge over the river. For dinner we went with Ken and Marcia Stoner to a little Seafood place on 5th Ave. TIME TO MEET THE GROUP! After dinner we met with the group to answer some questions about luggage tags for the trip.

TRAIN DAY- This morning was an early morning but with the time change was not so bad. We all gathered in the lobby and boarded the bus to get to the train. We met our tour guide Grant, who I have to say was fabulous! He was funny and very knowledgeable about Alaska and its history. The train was one of the highlights of the trip. We were so lucky from the day we got there the weather was perfect. Since it was so clear we were able to get some perfect pictures of Mt. McKinley and all of its surroundings.

DENALI- We checked into our hotel McKinley Villages after a short motor coach tour of the area. We than went into town and had some dinner at Lynx Creek Pizza which was great and CHEAP! Our hotel was right on the river so not only did we have a nice view but we sat out by the river for a bit of relaxation. Will likes to take a little memento from everywhere we go he picked up a handful of sand and took that home in a jar :) To each him own I get. I guess that just means more money for my memento...hehe.

The next day we got up early, really early, and had a nice buffet breakfast at the hotel. We were the 3rd bus to go into Denali National Park which gave us a better chance at wildlife viewings. We saw Doll Sheep, Moose, Bears (real close up to the bus, and Caribou. Got some great snapshots on that trip.

Next day we took a motor coach back to Anchorage and on the way stopped at the Alaska Native Heritage Center. This was also fun and educational on Alaskan history. What I liked best was going into the authentic native houses they built to demonstrate how they lived.

WHITTIER- We took a motor coach to Whittier where we picked up a Sea Life Cruise in Prince William Sound. I have to say the whole group loved this part of the tour! Again the weather was perfect and we got some amazing pictures of Seals, Otters, and Glaciers!

After the Sea Life Cruise we walked over to our cruise ship and set sail for 7 days! I could not wait for the next two days at sea to relax sit back and enjoy the view....

COLLEGE FJIORDS- On this day we did not have to wake up early but we chose to get up at 5:30 so we could watch the scenery from 6-10am. It was a bit more overcast the morning but also made for great pictures. I got my first of many hot chocolates that morning. TIP: On Princess Alaska Hot chocolates are not free so if you drink a lot of that or specially coffees you can buy a coffee card for 15 coffees/hot chocolate and a mug for about $28. Another idea is bring a box of your favorite hot chocolate and use their free hot water :)Ken gave a short but inspiring sermon that put us all in a good mood for the day...Thanks Ken! I also hit the gym this day and got a spinning package for $30 which gave me 3 classes on each day at sea. I’m telling you those instructors work you to death!

GLACIER BAY- Today was the first day I really slept in. Again perfect weather, now it is not normal to get weather like this so many days in a row in Alaska as it tends to rain quite a bit so we were lucky! We spent most of our time in the aft of the ship relaxing on our lounge chairs and those with balconies spent a lot of time there enjoying the view. I got my second workout on the bikes this day and boy was I feeling it :)We all met for Tea today and while sipping our tea we had some yummy scones and cream and party sandwiches all with white glove service...what a treat! Than a few of us headed for the sports bar to watch the FSU Clemson gave. Unfortunately we were not celebrating that night, but the comedian cheered us up some:)

SKAGWAY- We had our first rain in Skagway and from what I hear it is not that uncommon so come prepared with good waterproof shoes and a raincoat and you will be just fine. I had one but saw the cutest pink rain jacket at the Skagway Outlet for only $12 so I had to buy it :) We had an excursion on the White Pass Rail, which is their most popular trip over there. We had about 10 of us from the group do this and it was quite an experience up there even with the fog.

JUNEAU- Again we woke up to some rain so I got prepared and brought my rain jacket. I have to say though Ill take that cool crisp air, even with rain, any day over Tallahassee weather in August! We were all set for a hike, and had the best guides you could ask for. We took a 4 mile hike though the rainforest and stopped at several lookouts for Mendenhall Glacier.

Quite a few people in the group took off on some float planes to Taku Lodge for brunch ...Sandi opted for the helicopter ride landing on a glacier. Both trips turned out fantastic! I loved all your pictures...thanks Sandi, Vicki, Marie and Merrill.

I think we had our favorite meal was in Juneau at the Twisted Salmon....yummmm than we stopped over next door and bought some lox and smoked salmon to be shipped home. It was here the next day and we already made salmon dip with some of it :)

KETCHIKAN- On this day we had a group of 14 of us who took the Private Tour of Saxman Totem Village, Rainbow falls, and Herring bay. We had two mini buses and had a couple of very good tour guides. Today we were lucky and spotted a bear eating some fish and eagles up in the trees. I bought myself a little candle version of a totem pole this time as the real ones are quite pricey....

SEA-We spent our last day at sea relaxing from our balconies, or in the lounges or enjoying a meal with others in the group. Some of us went to go see Shek 3 in the Explorers Lounge. That afternoon we did a slideshow of our week and looked back at how much fun we all had.

VANCOUVER- I almost forgot about Vancouver! We stayed at one of the nicest hotels I have ever stayed at...the Airport Fairmont. Now if you are doing something like we did and only stayed one night to leave at 6am the next morning it’s a perfect place to stay. It’s not just close to the airport it’s just on top of the airport terminal so it only requires a escalator ride down to check-in.

There is just so much to see and do in Vancouver so since we only had one day we did a city tour to get a taste of many different places. We went to the Capilano Bridge (they had the best fudge ever!) this place was a whole lot of fun! We went downtown, through Chinatown, and Stanley Park and Granville Island. I could have spent a whole day doing Granville Island. There are lots of cute little shops and a fantastic farmers market.

That night we went downtown for a bite to eat and to window shop. There was so much going on but we were so tired we came back to the hotel early to catch some sleep.

Will and I truly had a blast and from what I have been hearing the rest of the group did too. Mission accomplished! Thanks everyone for making this trip so great!

Last Feb. Will and I went on a cruise with his parents and sister! It was their first cruise so they were a little nervous. They were also excited and full of questions before they left. They were coming a longer distance than we were as they live all the way up in Vermont. They flew in one day early to avoid missing their cruise due to air troubles. They stayed at a hotel near the port and had a nice time going to dinner the night before. The next morning they took a shuttle and met us at the pier. They were so excited the got to the pier 2 hours before they began embarkation!

Seeing them as they entered the cabin for the first time was exciting. They were so happy and ready to set sail. The first thing they did was walk out on to their balcony, which they loved! We started out our vacation by touring the ship together from top to bottom. My Father in law was very impressed with the size and amenities of the ship. We all had a blast at the sail away party on the Lido deck. We danced and had some drinks hoping to win one of the many prizes. No luck this time though :( Maybe next cruise.....

We had tons of fun at each of the ports either taking shore excursions or going off on our own. I think we had the most fun as a family in Ocho Rios when we went to Dunns River Falls and lunch at the Ruins. I had no idea what I was getting into with Dunns River Falls...I thought it would be a short easy climb and it was 45 minutes walking up the waterfalls with water rushing down. Luckily we were all holding hands helping each other up. I am so glad we went though cause it was so much fun! Our tour guide also took us all over the Island. Cozumel was fun.... the ladies went parasailing and then we spent the rest of the day at the beach sunning, eating our Nachos, and drinking our pina coladas....Most of us renting snorkel equipment for only $5 a piece and set out to the reef and saw tons of fish!

As for the ship, I loved it! I loved having my cabin in the back of the Aloha deck so that I was right near the back deck where it was never crowded and was an adult only pool. It was also so convenient to grab breakfast from the buffet and sit back take in the view. Our favorite meal was our champagne balcony breakfast, and was so worth it. (see picture below)We had a whole 5 course meal with champagne delivered and set up on our balcony. What a way to wake up!

We took advantage of the afternoon tea this time and I loved the whole experience. We went twice and sat with the same people both times. We met some very interesting people and had some very yummy scones and real cream, pastries, and party sandwiches with some hot tea. The whole thing was white glove service. I felt so special :)

We tried both specialty restaurants this time and the one I liked best was Sterling Steakhouse. It was well worth the $15 a person cover charge. I went all out and ordered a porterhouse steak! The service was exceptional and the whole meal was great...side note: I almost had to be rolled back to my cabin...hehe

The whole thing was such a blast and we all were able to spend time together like we wanted. My parents came off the ship ready to do it again.....so I will report back after our next family cruise........
